Based on Amelia Earhart’s astrology chart, could someone have advised her of the planetary vibrations that were beginning to align? Would it have been possible to accurately predict the changes ahead or her responses? In 1937, the cosmic forces lined up and the perfect storm of events was about to be unveiled.
In Part I, Amelia Earhart’s birth chart showed the possibility for events to manifest. In Part II, the eclipses were outlined and compared to her chart. In Part III, the role of the planetary transits and progressions are summarized relative to the date of her disappearance. Transits are the day-to-day location of the planets in the zodiac, and they represent the triggers for events. A progressed chart takes an individual’s birth chart and moves it forward one day for every year of life. Progressions are a predictive tool that represents personal cycles of development. They can describe how one reacts to a transit and can set the scene for potential events. Part III also includes a few asteroids and their archetypal myths that add an additional layer to the interpretations.
Transits, Stars & Archetypes
On July 2, 1937, Amelia Earhart and her navigator disappeared over the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. The following are the planetary transits and progressions that were activated during her disappearance. The transiting North Node was at 14 degrees Sagittarius transiting her 8th house. The 8th house represents numerous topics, including death. With her nodal axis being emphasized, it symbolized an appointment with destiny. The South Node was at 14 degrees Gemini, EXACTLY conjunct her Pluto and Gemini stellium of planets. Pluto can symbolize tragic and catastrophic events, and it ruled both her Uranus and Saturn in Scorpio. The South Node is a point that can emphasize loss, sacrifice, and self-undoing. This axis drew attention to the potential for a profound, life-changing event to occur.
Transit Venus
Transiting Venus was at 24 degrees Taurus. This is very significant! In her chart, Venus represents her physical body, well-being, and life force. Transiting Venus was conjunct the Fixed Star Algol. With good aspects, it can bring about wealth and power, yet; with challenging aspects to the rulers of the 8th and 1st houses it can bring about a violent death. It was making a difficult aspect to both her Uranus and Saturn in Scorpio. Finally, I calculated the Venus/ Ascendant midpoint, and it was exactly 25 degrees Taurus. Mid-points are personalized calculations that point to an alternate route to express the energies. Dating back to ancient times, they were points that indicated passages of growth. They are dormant unless activated, and in her chart, this midpoint was activated during her disappearance.
Transit Mars
It takes 2 ½ years for Mars to transit all twelve signs of the zodiac. Mars can show where there is the potential for conflict in a natal chart and by transit. On July 2nd, Mars was at 19 degrees Scorpio conjunct her Uranus and Saturn. This is an intense aspect between Mars and Uranus, and one way these planetary energies can manifest is through accidents. I can’t make this up! Mars was also opposite her natal Venus, transiting Venus and the Fixed Star Algol. All of these Mars aspects are alarming and brought further emphasis to her accidental demise.
Asteroid Achilles
There are thousands of asteroids in astrology, and the Trojan Asteroid Achilles made a last-minute debut in my notes. Yet, it added an impressive and powerful confirmation to July 2, 1937, alignments. It was stunning to see that even this archetype’s mythological influence was prominent in her chart! The Greek Warrior, Achilles symbolically represents an individual’s weak spot or weak link. It signifies a point of overconfidence or false confidence that can lead to one’s downfall or undoing. It indicates an area or pattern of personal vulnerability. Amelia Earhart’s asteroid Achilles was at 17 degrees of Scorpio in her birth chart and it was activated by transiting Mars. In 39 years, it had only progressed to 20 degrees Scorpio, and it was still in close proximity to her natal Uranus and Saturn. With Mars, the planet of war, conjunct her Achilles, it gives meaning to possibly having a weak spot with spontaneous decision making. Mars and Uranus combined to create a combustible scenario where all the energies increase the risks of an unanticipated accident.
Transit Uranus
Transiting Uranus, ruler of planes, aviation, accidents, radio, technology, and sudden radical change was at 12 degrees Taurus. It was exactly square her natal Mercury at 12 degrees of Leo. Mercury rules communication, miscommunication, vehicles, and travel. It also rules her Gemini planets (stellium) and Virgo planets. With a challenging aspect, it could create a surge of sudden, unexpected events surrounding communications. It is well documented that just prior to her disappearance there were a series of radio transmissions and miscommunication from her plane to the U.S. Coast Guard ship near Howland Island. In addition, I reviewed her natal chart’s Arabic Parts. There are dozens of Arabic Parts dating back to ancient Babylonian and Egyptian times. They are personalized calculations and considered a cosmic tool. When she disappeared, transiting Uranus was conjoined her Arabic Part of Death.
Transit Saturn
Transiting Saturn, also called the Lord of Karma, was transiting her 12th house at 4 degrees Aires. At this degree, it was making an aspect to the Lunar Eclipse and in a sense opened the karmic gates for the eclipse energies to manifest. A few keywords associated with the 12th house include unexpected travels, secret sorrows, and self-undoing. Saturn was also in close aspect to her nodal axis. Again this aspect highlighted an appointment with destiny.
Transit Jupiter
Transiting Jupiter, known for expansion, luck, and good fortune is typically highlighted during negative events since it emphasizes the moral components of a situation. Jupiter was retrograde at 24 degrees Capricorn in her 10th house of status, fame, and public visibility. First, it was the Lord and ruler of the Lunar Eclipse. Second, it made exact aspects to her natal Saturn and Uranus in Scorpio. In addition, it was making an aspect to transiting Mars and a difficult opposition to transiting Pluto. I interpret the Jupiter placement here as an expansive, global outpouring of concern, love, support, and prayers for her. Jupiter instills hope and optimism; yet, it was retrograde during her disappearance. In its weakened state, it can cast shadows of doubt. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and one way Saturn energies can manifest is through facing the harsh reality of a situation.
Transit Neptune
Transiting Neptune was at 16 degrees Virgo. This too activated the Solar Eclipse point and set the stage for the events in her life to unfold. Neptune was also making difficult aspects to her Gemini stellium (Moon, Venus, Pluto, and Neptune). It was conjunct her natal Mars and Jupiter; making challenging aspects to her natal Saturn and Uranus in Scorpio. Neptune rules the oceans, disappearances, and creates confusion. Her progressed Jupiter, (ruler of the eclipse and her 8th house) was also conjoined, Neptune. There was no turning back! Her chart was on fire!
Asteroid Pandora
The asteroid Pandora was also located at 17 Virgo in her natal chart, and it was conjoined transiting Neptune too. It adds additional depth to the Neptunian energies relating to the ocean, confusion, and her disappearance. The symbolism of Pandora relates to her myth; literally opening a box and realizing it’s too late to close it. The idioms pertaining to Pandora are the cat’s out of the bag, opening a can of worms, or curiosity killed the cat. Basically, the interpretation can extend as a warning. Don’t fall for things that are too good to be true.
Transit Pluto
Transiting Pluto was at 27 degrees Cancer in her 4th house. Pluto rules the sign of Scorpio and it was making aspects to her Uranus and Saturn in Scorpio. Pluto can relate to evolutionary karma and describe the depths of transformation people undergo in their lifetime. Pluto is a force of intensity, compulsion, focus, and transformation. In her natal chart, Pluto was in her 2nd house and denotes a deeply developed survival instinct. When she disappeared, the aspects were not good. Pluto was making a challenging aspect to transiting Jupiter in her 10th house of fame and public status. Pluto also made a hard aspect to transiting Venus at 24 Taurus and the Fixed Star Algol.
No doubt about it, Amelia Earhart had some challenging astrological alignments that all started to sync the year of her disappearance. For every challenging aspect in a birth chart, there is a way out. The possible solution can be the mid-point between the two planets. This calculation is a means of allowing the energies a constructive outlet. Yet, it is also a sensitive point between the two planets. To add to her planetary dynamics, her natal chart’s Mars/ Pluto midpoint was 27 degrees Cancer. While the Mars/ Pluto midpoint can bring a deep inner drive to win and a fighting spirit, it also carries the meaning of fighting for one’s life. With transiting Pluto conjoined the point, it brought a catastrophic event.
Progressions
Amelia Earhart’s astrology chart contained repetitive planetary themes that were triggered by the eclipses and transits. She was born with multiple conjoined planets that were activated and created the domino effect in multiple areas of her chart. Furthermore, her progressed chart also repeated the same themes in her birth chart.
Progressed Moon
The progressed Moon takes approximately 2 ½ years to transit a sign. When Amelia Earhart disappeared, her progressed Moon had just changed signs. It was at 0 degrees Sagittarius. At this degree, it was conjunct her 8th house cusp, a critical degree, her Uranus/ Saturn conjunction, and the Lunar Eclipse point. The progressed moon is used in timing events and a barometer for an individual’s emotions. With her progressed moon in Sagittarius, it emphasized feelings of an adventurous nature, optimism, idealism, and the potential to take on more than one can do or overextend oneself.
Progressed Angles
The rising sign (ascendant) is also called an angle. It is a powerful point in the chart where the energies of the planets making aspects can manifest quickly. There are four angles in a chart that are sources of energy. They too progress like a planet. When they make contact with a planet, it can create opportunities for fortunate or unfortunate events.
Her 4th house, also called the IC, is one of the four angles. At the time, it had progressed to 27 degrees Leo. Immediately, this degree stands out since it is conjoined to the Royal Star Regulus. For better or worse, this fixed star implies wealth, honor, and prominence when beneficially aspected. With difficult aspects, it can symbolize violence and destruction. As a Royal Star, it symbolizes a larger than life persona. At 27 degrees of Leo, it made difficult aspects to her Saturn and Uranus. It also made tough aspects to both transiting Venus and Jupiter.
The 4th house (IC) represents our home and domestic life, yet it also symbolizes the beginning and end of cycles in life. With her IC conjoined to Regulus, her departure and end of life were prominent and in a highly publicized manner. She obtained worldwide attention for her disappearance and achievements.
With her progressed Ascendant conjunct her natal Neptune, she fell under the rays of Neptune. Neptune’s vibrations are a subtle influence that can bring inspiration or confusion. It can create idealism, dreaminess, or a veil around one’s perception of reality. With Neptune, there’s the potential for self-deception or deception from others. Conjoined with the rising sign, it gives the individual an inability to see themselves and their situations clearly. Once Neptune leaves the orb of influence, the clouds can lift and clarity returns. Her Neptune wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
Legacy and Pioneering Spirit
Was it fate, free will, destiny, karma, or cosmic influences that paved the way to her legendary disappearance? There is no doubt that Amelia Earhart was a bold, daring and inequitably adventurous soul. She broke barriers and became an avant-garde pioneer in the field of aviation. Staying true to her love of flying, she departed pursuing her greatest challenge in circumnavigating the globe. Eighty years after her disappearance, her final resting place still remains unsolved. There continues to be unanswered questions and theories. In the end, history was made and her story still continues to fascinate people.
